Health Tips :-

Most people identify seaweed with sushi, those delectable rolls of rice, vegetables, and seafood wrapped up in sheets of nori. Rich in calcium and magnesium, this marine algae is capable of so much more, not only in the food world, but in medicine, cosmetics and industrial products.

The latest and greatest use of seaweed is the fibrous alginate extracted from sea kelp, which can be added to everyday products such as bread, and reduce fat absorption in the body by 75 percent. The findings, which came out of Newcastle University in the U.K., were presented this week at the American Chemical Society's spring meeting in San Francisco. The conference brings over 17,000 scientists and 12,000 reports on the latest in the fields of chemistry, medicine, health and food.

Best Pictures of Christina Hendricks

I’m breaking a lot of my own rules by writing this post as we try to steer away from “hot chicks for hot chicks’ sake” galleries here unless they’re wearing Pikachu or Chun Li costumes or something, but I have to make an exception for Christina Hendricks. What can I say? The woman has magical powers.

I also wrote this post because unlike the legions of supermodels and actresses out there who have done dozens of photoshoots over their careers, Hendricks has done relatively few, and therefore there ain’t a whole lot of professional pictures that exist of her outside of three or so magazines and a few awards ceremonies, and I wanted to put the best ones all in one place for your viewing pleasure.

I’m hoping Maxim or Stuff or FHM will read this, and stop calling Heidi Montag and do shoots of a REAL woman like Hendricks, who is destroying notions of ideal body types with her logic-defying curves. Also, she needs more movie and TV roles outside of Mad Men.

I’ve posted of some of these pictures because they’re obviously hot, but some are just funny, and some are from Firefly because well, Firefly is awesome.

Gawk away!

This pretty much sums up all the other pictures

Hot Asian Babe Sora Aoi

The Promise to Me initiative, introduced in October of 2009, is designed to empower women to make their health a priority and encourage them to pass the message on to other women in their lives. The initiative also has a charitable component – for every person who makes the promise to get tested and passes it on, Hologic, Inc. will donate funds to support preventative screening for underinsured and uninsured women.

In honor of National Cervical Health Awareness Month, Hologic is partnering with the National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC) to fund cervical cancer screening for women in need. For every person that "makes the promise" and passes it on through the Promise to Me website, Hologic will donate $1 towards healthcare for women.

Cervical cancer is the fifth most common cancer in women worldwide with approximately 471,000 new cases diagnosed each year and about 310,000 dying from this disease. So don’t delay in making an appointment with your doctor for you annual PAP smear and pelvic exam. Your life may depend on it

A long time coming, Senator Blanche Lincoln, who chairs the Agriculture Committee, has put forth a ten-year, $4.5 billion increase in funding for school lunch and nutrition programs. While this stops short of President Obama’s $1 million/year request, and that of food advocates such as Alice Waters and Ann Cooper, it will provide much-needed upgrading of food standards in our schools.

“This proposal is a monumental step forward as we work to end childhood hunger and address the epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States," Lincoln said in unveiling her bill. The bill will not only feed more children who cannot afford a mid-day meal but make it easier to attain eligibility for free meals. In addition, it will include provisions for allowing the Agriculture Department to set nutrition standards for all food sold at schools, and could ban high-sugar sodas and junk food from vending machines.

Currently, the school lunch program serves over 32 million children, with over 60 percent being free or reduced in cost. In many poor urban areas and low-income rural communities, the lunch program is a significant portion of a student’s daily calories and nutrition.
